The year 2007 was good for the top three Khans (Shah Rukh, Salman and Aamir), Akshay Kumar and Shahid Kapoor. What do you think these stars would be able to carry over their performances into 2008 or they will under perform or do even better than last year? Let’s measure and predict their coming success in 2008 on the basis of their performances in 2007.
As for actors let’s start with King Khan. Last year, while he silenced his critics with Chak de India and thrilled his fans with OSO, his two films coming this year are Dulha Mil Gaya and My Name is Khan.
Although Salman Khan appeared only in Partner, the film was one of the biggest hits of his career. In 2008, his three films that are ready to release are Mera Bharat Mahaan with Preity Zinta, Wanted Dead and Alive with Ayesha Takia, and Yuvraaj with Katrina Kaif.
The year 2007 was largely belonged to Akshay Kumar as he emerged as the box office hero with four back to back hits – Bhaagam Bhag, Namastey London, Heyy Babyy, Bhool Bhulaiya and Welcome. Producers are bullish on Akshay as there is a guaranteed return on investment. His new price of 22 crore is considered to be justified too as he has got huge and formidable releases in 2008, starting with Yashraj's Tashan. Others to follow in 2008 would be Made in China, Kambakth Ishq, Singh is King, and Eight by Ten.
Towards the end of 2007, Aamir Khan showed with Taare Zameen Par that he is not only a perfectionist in acting but in direction too. He has been known to maintaining his place at the top irrespective of his film releases. This year he might appear in a couple of films – Ghajini with South Indian actress Asin Thottumkal and Kajri with Ayesha Takia. While Shahid Kapoor had also bagged a couple of big hits in the form of Vivaah and Jab We Met, he is likely to continue doing the same with his only 2008 release Kismet Konnection with Vidya Balan.
However, there had no other release of Abhishek Bachchan except his masterpiece Guru last year, he will be seen this year in Delhi 6 with Vidya Balan. Not a single film of Hrithik Roshan was released in 2007, because he was working on Jodha Akbar which will be most probably released this February.
John Abraham had a bad year with the flopping of No Smoking and Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal, and his only film is coming this year is Aashaein. Akshaye Khanna put classy performances in three of his films – Naqaab, Gandhi My father and Aaja Nachle – released last year. Sadly all of them disappeared without a whimper. This year he has only Race to be released.
Saif Ali Khan's only release Tara Rum Pum bit the dust due to some illogical scenes that did not go down well with the audience last year. But this year he has three films with Kareena Kapoor – Agent Vinod, Mr.Mehta and Mrs. Singh, and Tashan – and one with Bipasha – Race.
Year 2007 was not good for Big Bachchan either, as he has given flop films like Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, Nishabd, Cheeni Kam and Ram Gopal Verma ki Aag. This year his Aladdin and The Last Lear may compensate his flops.
As for actresses, the year 2007 belonged to Vidya Balan and Katrina Kaif. Vidya Balan rocked in Bhool Bhulaiya and Heyy Babyy while Katrina was more than just a pretty face in Namastey London and Partner. As you’ve seen above each of these actresses is co-starring with big actors this year.
Last year, Kareena Kapoor found a lot of fans in Jab We Met and this year she will be seen in a lot of big budget films. Tabu received critical acclaim for Namesake and Cheeni Kum and this year she is coming in a film called Luck by Chance. Lara Dutta was a dark horse of year 2007 featuring in hits like Partner and Bhaagam Bhag, but she hasn’t got any big film for this year to release. Aishwarya also had a hit with Guru and this year she is coming in two historical biggies – Jodha Akbar and Jhansi ki Rani.
The queen bee Rani had the worst year in her career with the illogical Tara Rum Pum, the crappy Laaga Chunari Mein Daag and the boring Saawariya. And this year too she is not coming in any film.
Priyanka Chopra gave her career worst performance in her only film this year Salaam -e-Ishq, and in 2008 too she can only be seen in the film Fashion.
After her blockbuster OSO, Deepika Padukone is also going to rock in 2008 with her films like Made in China and Pirate.
The year 2007 was not so successful for Preity Zinta, but this year she is ready with films like Har Pall and The Last Lear.
Year 2008 is assumed as the year of Celina Jaitley as she is coming not in one but in three films – Golmaal Returns, Hello Darling and Money Hai To Honey Hai.
Let’s wait and watch what’s these Bollywood stars going to do this year.
