Stunning Performances

Bollywoodvillage.com brings to you the stunners of Bollywood…those actors who have stunned us with their performance in the recent past.

Shahrukh Khan in Chak De IndiaShahrukh Khan in Chak De India
Just when we thought his reign was over; SRK came back with a bang with a powerhouse performance in Chak De India. And while many claimed, that Shahrukh acted well in Swades, and for once didn't play himself; people are claiming likewise this time too. "Shahrukh is unbelievable!" shout the critics. With stubble and playing hockey coach in Chak De India, SRK delivers much.

Akshaye Khanna in Gandhi My FatherAkshaye Khanna in Gandhi My Father
Akshaye Khanna is Harilal in Gandhi My Father. He is extraordinary in the role of Harilal Gandhi. He portrays the varied emotions - angst, sorrow, anger, frustration, love -- with great understanding and maturity and comes up with his career-best work. “I’ve never used my personal life to play any character. I read about actors digging into their experiences. I don’t carry my roles home. Yes, scenes in ‘Gandhi’ have eaten into my soul,” Akshaye Khanna told in an interview. Akshaye Khanna was not aware of Harilal’s existence and says this lack of knowledge made it easier for him to get under the skin of the character.

Aishwarya Rai in Provoked Aishwarya Rai in Provoked
Jagmohan Mundhra's "Provoked", the true story of a Punjabi woman named Kiranjit Ahluwalia who left India to marry a London-based guy only to be badly abused in the marriage. She finally ends up in prison for murdering her abusive husband."In fact, there are some striking similarities between the two housewives played by Rai and Berry. Both are about the struggle for survival with dignity. My director Jagmohan Mundra and I are hoping for a similar impact for 'Provoked' in the West," Manohar told IANS.

Katrina Kaif in Namastey London Katrina Kaif in Namastey London
This was the shock of the season. Actress Katrina Kaif who came across as a non-performer in her previous films looked stunning and acted brilliantly in Namastey London. We think it was the casting that made all the difference. Starring with ace Akshay Kumar, she stood her own and did well. She left us stunned!

Abhishek Bachchan in Guru Abhishek Bachchan in Guru
First noticed as the angry young man in Yuva, He has never had to look back since then. One spectacular performance followed another and he found himself in the A-League of actors. In his more recent release- Mani Ratnam's Guru – the man delivered yet another out of the ordinary performance. Kudos to this one.

Vidya Balan in ParineetaVidya Balan in Parineeta
Vidya has been a part of many good films - Munnabhai MBBS, Guru… but what we haven't yet got over is her brilliant act in Parineeta. Actress Vidya Balan was touted to be the classic Indian beauty in this one, and she left the audience wide mouthed with her spectacular debut performance. Balan had her contemporaries on the edge from the very beginning.

Saif Ali Khan in Hum Tum Saif Ali Khan in Hum Tum
He charmed us in Hum Tum, and has been charming us ever since. Even his negative role in Ek Hasina Thi was applauded and always deserves special mention, and they gray characters in Omkara and Being Cyrus has left us all asking for more. From the premature days of Ole Ole, Saif has come a long way. Let's ole ole to that.

Rani Mukherjee in Black Rani Mukherjee in Black
She is a great actor and choosing just one film of her impressive filmography may not seem fair. But Black truly stands apart from any other performance. Essaying the role of a blind girl, Rani's achievement was truly luminous. Rani shone in the arc lights, and was deservedly well awarded. The role and performance remains unparalleled and truly unmatched.

Lara Dutta in Jhoom Barabar JhoomLara Dutta in Jhoom Barabar Jhoom
She proved to be tough competition for Preity Zinta and eventually stole the show. Lara stunned us with her performance in JBJ, and that must've been quite a confidence booster, for she wasn't bad in Parnter either. Well, it's pleasant to have her around.

Irrfan Khan in Metro Irfan Khan in Life In a Metro
He always manages to impress. And if you thought his Maqbool performance was the ultimate, we urge you to watch Anurag Basu's Metro. More on the commercial side, Irrfan is the best part of this multi-starrer.With a fabulous characterization; the actor truly deserves special mention. He's made it all look so simple and easy.

Kangana Ranaut in GangsterKangana Ranaut in Gangster
She won her awards for best debut, and her performance in Gangster was surely noteworthy. It doesn't end there. She also made an impact with the hard-hitting film Woh Lamhe, a film based on actress Parveen Babi. And then there's of course Metro, where Kangana does well as the straight-haired corporate secretary.

Sunny Deol in Apne  Sunny Deol in Apne
He stole our heart in this one. Thankfully, Sunny Deol didn't shout out his dialogues…it may have been because he wasn't on talking terms with the protagonist in the film - dad Dharam. The son showed us, that he could express a great deal with his eyes, and doesn't need to be shouting to be heard. Quite a pleasant change, huh. We were surprised!

Vivek Oberoi in Shootout at Lokhandwala Vivek Oberoi in Shootout at Lokhandwala
We thought he was gone. And he proved he was not, with a comeback of sorts in Shootout At Lokhandwala. Actor Vivek Oberoi initially was the 'one to look out for' with a fantastic debut in Company and the affable Saathiya… But then things just weren't the same. But then Shootout happened, and Vivek is back in the race.

Tusshar Kapoor in Golmaal Tusshar Kapoor in Golmaal
Whoever thought he could play dumb so well. Actor Tusshar Kapoor had us in splits in Golmaal. He proved his comic timing. The lad had tried something different in Gaayab, too, where he played Mr. Invisible. But that didn't shock us. If anything did, it was his Golmaal role. Though Tushar tried something new in Shootout, too - he played bhai (gangster) for the first time - but that didn't quite go down too well.

Ayesha Takia in Dor Ayesha Takia in Dor
I can look good and act great even sans make-up! Well, that's Ayesha Takia for you. The actress who was initially seen making the most of her glam-doll appearance opted to play the simple widow in Nagesh Kukunoor's Dor, and proved that she could act, too.Ayesha delivered a brilliant performance in this one and left us astounded.
