Movie Review : De Taali2 star

De Taali MovieIt's a good-looking film with good performances but no plot. It also moves predictably. The movie is all about friendship and love, but when the lights dim in the theatre, heralding the start of the film, the music accompanying it gives it a somber mood. As the credits roll on screen, you get an impression that this here is a serious film. But the tempo soon changes as the main cast breaks into a peppy song for no reason. This song could have been used to good effect as the film begins. That is the first grave mistake.

After a few reels, a predictable surprise is thrown in. A second mistake. Finally, when the truth is out, that (Kartika) Rimi Sen had just used the situation to her advantage and her to-be-husband (Abhi) Aftab Shivdasani has no problems, you wonder what the fuss was all about. Also, it does not make sense that she gives up her desire to marry Abhi even as she is in the mandap. A bigger mistake. So even though you think that this movie is going somewhere, it looks up a dead end, thanks to the poor script.

The movie is about Abhi, (Amu) Ayesha Takia and (Paglu) Riteish Deshmukh, all great friends. Abhi is forever falling in love while Paglu and Amu freeload on various trips abroad. This fact is highlighted when Kartika enters Abhi's life. Kartika, it appears has schemed her way into Abhi's heart while Paglu is hell-bent on seeing Abhi and Amu married. How they try to ward off the 'Kartika threat' is what the movie is all about.

Riteish Deshmukh is adorable. This lad here is going from strength to strength. He has shown that comedy is his forte. Aftab Shivdasani tries hard. Either he is not convinced about the role he is playing or is not able to get into character. Ayesha Takia has surprisingly woken up from her SUNDAY siesta (pun intended). After a long time, she puts in her heart in her role. Rimi Sen delivers in style. As the scheming Kartika, she weighs her options well before plunging into her role. A controlled performance. Sadly, the same cannot be said about Anupam Kher who all throughout the film is reduced to teaching his pet dog to follow his orders. A waste of talent.
