Shahrukh Khan started out his career appearing in several television serials in the late 1980s. Since 2000, he has branched out into film production and television presenting as well. In 1995 he starred in Aditya Chopra's directorial debut Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge which was a critical and commercial success and has entered its twelfth year in Mumbai theaters, grossing over 12 billion rupees in all, making it as one of the biggest film blockbusters.His most recent film was the sports film Chak De India which released on August 10, 2007.His other forthcoming release is Om Shanti Om.

She married an Indian-American, Dr. Sriram Madhav Nene, in 1999. A UCLA-trained cardiovascular surgeon who practices in Denver, Nene is also from a Marathi Koknastha Brahmin family. She has two sons, Arin (born in March 2003 in Colorado) and Ryan (born on March 8, 2005 in Colorado).

She gave birth to her second child, a boy, on July 12, 2007.
