Bollywood being our main entertainment industry hasn’t provided enough space for children through mainstream cinema. Even animated movies belong to that genre is very rare. When such movies are made based on our mythological stories it doesn’t make much impact on children like the animated movies from Hollywood do. Why all major attempts at an animated movie seem to be going on the same way? Occasionally resorting to religion is not a bad idea, but movies should be meant to entertain both adults as well as children. And it’s quite surprising that this year Bollywood is all set to release lots of animated films on subjects that will entertain the children and adults alike all over the world.
Let’s have a look at the glimpses of those films.
Koochie Koochie Hota Hai
The directorial debut of Karan Johar ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ was such a huge hit at the box office that Karan Johar is now starting an animated version to that film titled ‘Koochie Koochie Hota Hai’. The film will include Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukherjee and Kajol in animated roles as dogs.
Ronny and Rocky
After ‘My Friend Ganesha’, director Rajiv S. Ruia is ready with another animated film ‘Ronny and Rocky’. This is a comedy film having Chunky Pandey in a detective role, while Gulshan Grover plays the role of an oxman, a criminal character. Ronny is the dog who plays lead in the film, while Rocky is a small boy who is his best friend.
Toonpur Ka Raja
Ajay Devgan is all set to feature in Kireet Khurana's animated venture ‘Toonpur Ka Super Hero’, wherein he will be playing title himself. It will have both animated and real life characters.
Cheenti Cheenti Bang Bang
According to the makers, this film is not to be confused with Ian Fleming’s children’s book ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’. This 80-minute long film is about two rival kingdoms of ants fighting with each other.
Jumbo and The Return of Ravana
After their ‘Hanuman’ became a big success, Percept Pictures gave animation a completely new meaning in India. After the ‘Return of Hanuman’, they have planned to make two other animated films. The first film will be titled ‘Jumbo’ and will be based on an elephant. This will be Percept’s first complete 3D animated film. The other film is the third part of the Hanuman series that is called ‘The Return of Ravana’.
Dashavatar
Unlike last year, this year has very few films in the religious mode. Dashavatar is one of them and could make up for the rarity of the genre since this film itself has the central character of Lord Shiva taking 10 animated avatars.
Friends Forever
Soumitra Ranade’s film ‘Friends Forever’ has been in the making for quite sometime. As there were issues with the animation, the animation studio has completely been changed. The new studio has reportedly done a good job and the film will definitely release this year.
Sholay
The animated version of ‘Sholay’ under the banner of Pritish Nandy Communications will stick mostly to the original script of the 1975 movie with a few improvisations of their own. Actors like Amitabh, Dharmendra and Hema shall be depicted in their animated forms. The film will be released towards the end of 2008.
Judwaa
After the success of ‘Heyy Babyy’, Sajid Nadiadwala is now wants to spread his wings in the field of animation. He is interested in remaking ‘Judwaa’ and promises that the animated version of it will have lots of comic scenes that will have audiences (mainly kids) laughing in splits.
