Stars with stomachs of steel have been around for years. Bollywood’s two macho men Salman Khan and Hrithik Roshan started showing off their six-pack abs right from their very first films. But it recently became sensation when the Bollywood king Shah Rukh Khan suddenly shifted from an athletic to a super-sculpted look at the age of 42. SRK, in his last release ‘Om Shanti Om’, posed in bare-chested glory, with bulging biceps, washboard tummy and rippling six-pack abs glistening with sweat.
This new body approach is doing the rounds in media about yet another leading actor of Bollywood none other than Aamir Khan. He has been working out to lose flab for his forthcoming film, which is a remake of Tamil film ‘Ghajini’. However, what has just been revealed is the cost of the gym he created in his home to get that well-toned look. If the buzz is to be believed, Aamir’s gym costs a colossal 55 lakh of rupees. From the time he began work on the yet untitled Hindi remake, Aamir has been laboring to get those much hyped and now common six-pack abs.
Sources say, Aamir has been quite religious about his workouts. He exercises for at least four hours daily. He is also maintaining a strict as well as a balanced diet for himself. Apparently, he wants a well-chiseled physique to go with his bald look in the remake.
Aamir’s bare body shot in the film has been postponed till March end. Sources say that the actor wants people to buy tickets to see his physique. While his acting has already left us enthralled, let’s see what his new look does.
Indian men in sprawling metros and big and small cities are almost obsessed with looking good. But fitness is not just about pumping iron or taking steroids, it’s also about many other things which the following gym-toned bodies of Bollywood have always been following. Let’s check out!
The Original – Salman Khan
This often-shirtless hunk of a man started the body beautiful zeitgeist in Bollywood. Salman pumps iron three hours a day, cuts down on sleep time and often calls up his trainer in the wee hours for a session.
The Natural – Hrithik Roshan
A fitness fanatic, Hrithik dashes off to the gym at the drop of a hat, does 40 minutes of high-intensity weights and jogs or skips for 25 minutes every day. Whew! But he does all that for pleasure. On the food front, he takes no butter, no ghee, and no oil. Just grilled, boiled and roasted stuff is enough for him.
The Good Looking – John Abraham
Trying hard to copy that dashing good look? Don’t bother. Good genes combine with hours of cardio, crunches and kickboxing to give John that chiseled look. A health-freak and a vegetarian, his diet is not a foodie’s delight. But it keeps his dietician happy and his fabulous abs in shape. Looking good for the camera doesn’t come easy.
The Body at 47 – Shekhar Suman
Shekhar got himself a new body at 47 and the cut in today’s world to go with it. “There came a point when I grew bored with myself as I looked into the mirror,” says Shekhar. Then in December 2006, he decided to turn over a new leaf. He weighed 76 kg when he hit the gym.
So, thanks to the media blitz about sculpted, gym-toned bodies of Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan, John Abraham, Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan, once again it becomes evident that if something is packaged smartly, the masses might just turn it into a trend. One worrying trait remains: in this quest for male beauty, vanity and health, will Indian men remember that there’s more to a body than mere muscles?
